Several actors have a charisma around them. Not Namrata Shirodkar.
In town to promote her upcoming Rok Sako To Rok Lo, her attempt to look seriously stark in black was anything but impressive.
“I don’t care if my films don’t do well. I am happy as long as I have work to do,” says the model-turned-actor. “If I am still getting work around here, it means I have what is required to stay.” So what if she plays the lead actor’s harrassed wife (see Vaastav) or a pained widow (Hathyar) or the love interest of Saif Ali Khan or a caring sister to Ash in Bride and Prejudice. “I don’t think so. The praise for Vaastav was universal. Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) may have bagged the award for the best actor but that’s just because the film was centred around him. All the critics, the ones who are worth their opinions, have praised my work in the film too.”
It could be noted here that all the films starring her in the lead (except for Insaaf) arrived and sank without a trail at the box office.
In Rok Sako To Rok Lo, Shirodhkar plays a young girl, Sandra, who runs a cafe on the campus and is like she says, “very with the students.”
“My role is a cameo in the film but I am an essential link to the story. I wonder what the film would be without me.”
The future holds great hopes as she wants to be as famous as her famous grandmother, Meenakshi Shirodhkar. In case you were wondering, she was a Marathi actor.
Her upcoming films are, “I have been approached for many projects but I haven’t signed the dotted line as yet. Umm…. they are big names, big ones.”
Given a chance Shirodhkar says she would like to play the lead in Mother India.
Mallika Sherwawat, are you listening?
